Thanksgiving At Our House

Just a few quick photos of our girls keeping entertained with the Thanksgiving Place Setting & Chair Pockets Kit from our Etsy Shop.  Hope yours enjoyed the holiday as much as our did! (Anyone cook their turkey as Meg recommends?)

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Freebie Friday: Modern Thanksgiving Printables Set

Jennifer Sbranti of Hostess With the Mostess created an incredibly complete set of modern Thanksgiving printables last year but they are so pretty, they bear repeating. These would work equally well for an adult or children’s table. I wish I could show you the photos, but you’ll just have to trust me and click the link below.

The set includes: fill-in invitations, napkin rings/vase wraps, place cards, square favor tabs, cupcake toppers/party circles, bottle labels, drink tags, patterned paper and party embellishments. Really, everything you could need.

The collection was created to help support Operation Give Thanks, a 2010 fundraising campaign for Operation Shower, which delivers baby showers to military families. It is not too late to donate — and in fact, HWTM suggests making a donation when you download the printables. (You can donate here.) If you haven’t seen an Operation Shower party, enter that search term on HWTM, and you’ll be amazed at the creativity.

Here are the printables: Free “Grateful Mod” Party Printables for Operation Give Thanks // Hostess with the Mostess®.

And here they are in action. And here’s how to make a centerpiece using the set.

Freebie Friday: Thanksgiving Gift Tag

Thanksgiving: Children’s Party Table

Every year at Thanksgiving, dinner is served a little later than planned (I’m looking at your my darling, late-arriving niece Emily!). So our challenge is to keep Meg and Grace entertained in the meantime. I know I can’t be the only one with restless children at the holidays.

So I had a brainstorm. What our little children’s table needed was a place to keep activities and crafts. I dreamed up a pocket that would slip over the back of a chair and hold the activities. Here are the chair pockets in use at our simple little children’s Thanksgiving table. Our Etsy shop offers the chair pockets alone or the entire place setting, including the chair pockets. These pockets are deep brown with large white polka dots and an embroidered felt leaf. The leaves are attached with Velcro, so you can switch them out depending on your occasion.

Now, despite my grandmother’s best efforts, I don’t sew. But thanks to a referral from Stephanie of Little Boo Creations, I met an amazing seamstress who lives just two traffic lights away from me!

I know “amazing” is overused, but you MUST visit Amy Donaldson’s Etsy shop here and see her work. I am honored that Amy will be making and embroidering our (awkwardly named) Chair Back Cover Pockets. (And if anyone has a better name for these pockets, PLEASE let me know.)

With the larger font.

With the smaller font. The leaves come in four styles.

Here you can see the activities and games peeking out of the pocket.

Place setting with dinner plate, dessert place, plastic wear, cup, fabric napkin, and fabric leaf placemat. I also added Thanksgiving lollipop covers from Simple Tastes. I love these!

Centerpiece … using what I had: gourds and art pottery.

Here are the contents of the pocket!

Each child gets four hand-cut images (leaf, pumpkin, acorn and gourd) on which they can write what they are thankful for. I also include curling ribbon you can use to hang the cut-outs as a banner.

Turkey puppet and crayons for coloring feathers.

Finger fidget in Thanksgiving colors. Children can make all sort of creations out of these!

Pony beads in Fall colors and Silkies necklace.

“How to Cook a Turkey” recipe card.

Please let me know what you think! We’ll have chair cover pockets for Christmas, birthdays and other occasions. We hope you like them!

Freebie Friday: Halloween & Thanksgiving Printables

I owe a lot to Kori of Paper & Pigtails: she was the first blog to publish one of my parties (see my July 4th party here). With absolute honesty, I’m not sure I would have had the confidence to launch Double the Fun Parties without that boost from Kori.

So, I’m really excited to feature her FREE Fall printables. And that’s why I’ve squeezed in a Friday Freebie on Thursday. Kori is a smart girl and she’s combined her Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations with one color palette. All you do is switch out your signage and you’ve moved from Halloween to Thanksgiving.

The free set includes party circles and signs for both holidays. If you want to order the rest of the set, visit her Etsy shop.

To access the printables, check out Kori’s perfect photos and you’ll find the printables link at the end of the post.

Thanks Kori!
